2. Take the Position of Love

“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love, and of a sound mind.” –2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

Second Timothy 1:7 tells us that we have been given a spirit of love. And science tells us that human beings—at our most fundamental level—break down from cells into waves of love. More importantly, this energy of love has the potential to transform our situations, our minds and our bodies. That’s powerful! In other words, our natural wiring is for love—fear is something we learn.

Dr. Leaf says, “Our spirit and mind make up 99 percent of our being, and every time we use our minds, we create something. So, a sound mind is one that takes a position of love. That’s why there is truth in the saying ‘mind over matter,’ because we really do have the power to influence our lives with our minds.”

Dr. Leaf explains that this is also the reason why you can sometimes feel negative energy coming from someone, even if they aren’t saying anything. It’s a toxic energy. You can’t pick up on toxic thoughts, but you can pick up on toxic energy because it is disturbing your natural love energy.

The same thing happens when someone says something sharp to you, and you respond with the same spirit. When you respond in kind to negativity from other people, you continue that toxicity and allow it to access your brain, mind, spirit and body. That’s why the Bible so clearly instructs us to “be imitators of God…. And walk in love” (Ephesians 5:1-2, NKJV). How should we respond? Proverbs 15:1 says, “A soft answer turns away wrath” (NKJV). That’s the energy coming from love.

It’s not always easy take the position of love. It requires effort! But it is so critical because as long as you allow yourself to stay in a toxic cycle of receiving, absorbing and giving back toxicity, you increase your vulnerability for disease by 75 to 98 percent! Stepping out of love actually shortens one’s lifespan.
