Getting a media feature, gigs and more exposure is as important as making the music itself. However, as an artiste it is important you have a media kit otherwise called EPK (Electronic Press Kit).
What is a media kit?
An Electronic Press Kit (or EPK, media kit) is a document that should showcase what your brand is all about. It should have clear links to your music, website, Testimonials, media features and social media details, acting as a central point for you to introduce your brand and what you’re about.
Your Media Kit is like one big elevator pitch so it’s normal to focus on your band’s strengths. But don’t overdo it with any fake news or assumptions. It must be as real as possible.
If you stay with me till the end of this article, you would be able to build your media kit and also have access to a free customizable media kit I developed for you.
Before you create your media kit, what are the essential details that must be included in your electronic press kit?
- Biography:
A summary of you and your music. It should be concise and easy-to-read. Include information such as your band name, where you’re from and any significant achievements you had to date.
If you don’t have much to say, don’t worry: everyone can appreciate new brands mightn’t have a big story so it’s good to keep it short and sweet to start with.

- Events/Gigs
All the major gigs you’ve played in the previous twelve months.
If you’ve got a tour date planned talk about it in this section. If you’re a new artist without any relevant gigs, just include upcoming gigs. Alternatively you could write about your first release or what you’re band are currently up to.
Also to be included in your media kit is your

In conclusion, it doesn’t matter if you are an emerging artiste or a spotlight artiste, your EPK is as important to your music business as water is to life.
