The Frenchman handed in a transfer request at the end of last season and Atletico have confirmed the former Real Sociedad forward will be sold.
Barcelona had been expected to complete a deal for the France international but the Catalans’ priorities have shifted in recent months as they look to rebuild in midfield and defence.
Griezmann’s contract includes a release clause of around £108m, which Barcelona are having second doubts about paying given they want to strengthen other areas of the squad.
‘There’s a need for patience, as it’s still soon,’ said Griezmann after France’s 4-0 win against Andorra.
‘I want my future to be decided more than anyone, but there’s a need to wait.
‘I don’t know if I’ll remain in Spain. Maybe in two weeks we’ll know something.
‘I just want to play football and have fun.’
Griezmann was close to joining Manchester United in 2017 before Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban was upheld, meaning they would not be able to sign a replacement.
United turned to Romelu Lukaku instead and the Frenchman signed a bumper new deal in 2018.
Pep Guardiola has dismissed any interest from Manchester City in the forward, while Chelsea are fighting a transfer ban of their own.
Griezmann is outside Arsenal’s budget, while Liverpool have a settled front three.
