The seasoned Gospel music artiste and coach writes an open letter to Choir Directors, church groups, choir and bands. He says and I quote
YOUR CHOIR IS LOADED- YOU JUST DON’T KNOW
If your choir members can be humble enough, there are people among you that can teach you things you don’t know. They will even teach you for free or very cheap. Things you may have to spend hundreds of thousands for in a music school will be handed to you just like that. That’s one of the benefits of being in a choir.
Every choir always has 1 or 2 or more of such assets in people who are loaded. But pride and the feeling that ‘you can’t know more than me , we are all choir members together, how can you be teaching me stuff’ keeps many folks ignorant for a long time. I regularly tell my choir members to never think they are all on the same level.
Someone in that music team knows how to write songs more than you even though you have a better voice and sing better. I have discovered this to be true. All my trainings for my choir has been IN-HOUSE. I just discovered there was no need getting an external facilitator. At least someone in my choir is a Pro in vocal training, there are at least 4-5 who are good with Music theory, there are 4-5 excellent worship leaders, 6-7 amazing songwriters, 9 fantastic song leaders, 2-3 Directors and and very good at arranging and re arranging and the list goes on.
Don’t say I’m just lucky, Find out. Your choir too is more loaded than you think. Ask people what they can do. Find out what people have done before and where they are coming from. You guys should humble yourselves and learn from one another.
For the next 6 weeks, I’ll be sitting under some of my choir members as we all engage in some intense music training for the whole choir. For these 6 weeks, I’ll put off my MD robe and be a student. I hope this will inspire someone and music teams out there.
